Position Summary:
- Looking to hire a medical assistant that will work under the direct supervision of the nursing and medical provider staff while assisting and performing a prescribed set of duties in the provision of patient care. Will assume additional responsibilities for all clerical functions in the assigned clinic, as applicable, and when assigned. Should have the ability to articulate and demonstrate compliance to all policies/procedures that are applicable to this position. Will Support the mission and philosophy of our organization.
- HS diploma and is a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred.
- Basic computer skills required.
- BLS certified.
- E Clinical works
- Fluency in English, oral and written form, is required.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
- Demonstrates initiative, competency and enthusiasm for carrying out daily assignments; assisting and taking direction from health care providers in the delivery of patient care and maintaining patient flow; demonstrates the ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
- Accurately performs & records vital assessments to include but, not limited to vital signs, weight, height and promptly reports abnormalities to the medical provider or designated nursing staff on duty.
- Acts as scribe and enters History and Physical information, chief complaint, medications, allergies and family history into a chart or Electronic Medical Record and assisting patient in filling out self-report questionnaire.
- Instructs patients about medication and special diets.
- Provides prepared family education and instruction.
- Assists an authorized practitioner, under the direct and personal supervision of said practitioner, to carry out a specific task that does not require medical judgement or decision making.
- Utilizes appropriate techniques and complies with written standards when performing waived testing and quality control procedures. Promptly records and reports results to medical provider or designated nursing staff on duty in accordance with agency procedure.
- Utilizes appropriate technique in performing venipuncture to obtain blood specimens in accordance with agency procedure; verbalizes knowledge of and adheres to OSHA standards for blood-borne pathogens when handling blood and body fluids; maintains universal precautions in the provision of patient care.
- Demonstrates compliance to infection control protocols and maintains a safe, clean and therapeutic work environment. Utilizes aseptic technique in the sterilization of instruments utilized for Dental and Specialty services as assigned.
- Demonstrates initiative and competency in the utilization of Health Information Technology to perform essential job functions, which includes but, is not limited to (1) documentation in the eCW/EHR, (2) Transmission of ePHI, (3) Retrieval of ePHI (4) Visit summary reports (5) Scanning of PHI.
- Maintains and monitors stock inventory in the treatment center and replenishes supplies in exam rooms on a timely basis. Prepares and processes requisitions for routine supplies in accordance with agency procedures.
- Monitors the integrity of equipment and promptly reports malfunction, missing or damaged equipment to the Regional Nurse Manager in accordance with agency procedure.
- Maintains a work environment that fosters collaboration and communication between all health care team members, projects a positive image to the communities we serve and demonstrates respect for the cultural and religious diversities and needs of patients, families and care providers.
- Conforms to policies and regulations governing patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.
- Maintains an efficient system for scheduling appointments for patients in accordance with established agency procedures, when assigned.
- Facilitates communication with appropriate staff in the Therapeutic communities regarding missed appointments and abnormal test results in accordance with agency procedure, as applicable to clinic location and patient population serviced and assignment.
- Retrieves medical records on a timely basis and in accordance with established procedures for: (a) scheduled patient visits (b) transport to other clinics (c) correspondence (d) photocopying as applicable and assignment.
- Organizes and maintains an efficient system for verifying location of charts and filing active medical records at the clinic site by unit record number as applicable and assigned.
- Promptly forwards discharge charts for archiving, in accordance with agency procedures, as applicable and assigned.
- Demonstrates respect for the cultural and religious diversities and needs of patients, families, care providers and external customers.
- Creates an atmosphere of courtesy and respect towards patients, families, and staff.
- Maintains a consistent and flexible pattern of attendance in accordance with assigned schedule and reports to work on time.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the position by attending in-service programs.
- Conforms to agency guidelines regarding dress code; is well groomed and neat; demonstrates good personal hygiene.
- Meet physical requirements of position to include lifting to 20 lbs. and standing for long periods of time.
- Performs all related duties as assigned or unrelated duties, as requested.
