Optum Urgent Care College Point, part of Optum, has an immediate opening for a friendly, patient focused and detailed oriented Associate Urgent Care Receptionist/Medical Assistant to join our team. Associate Urgent Care Receptionist \ Medical Assistant is responsible for the completion of set processes and protocols. Works cooperatively with all members of the care team to support the vision and mission of the organization, deliver excellent customer service and adhere to Lean processes. Supports the teams in meeting financial, clinical and service goals.
Schedule: Office is open seven days a week. This role would consist of a 37.5-hour work week, Wednesday between the hours of 1:50pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday and Friday from 7:50 am to 8:00 pm, Saturday 7:50 am to 5:00 pm. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and conduct check-in process: Collect or verify demographic information, including key demographic fields
- Load or update insurance information as needed
- Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously for all specialties
- Confirms and schedule appointments
- Verify eligibility and authorization and flag appointment accordingly
- Scan insurance card(s)
- Collect co-payments and outstanding balances
- Post payments received in practice management system and provide system-generated receipts
- Sends patient records to primary care physician
- Takes vital signs, performs EKGs and assists providers with patient care
- Prepares exam rooms for patients and documents patient encounters in Epic
- Performs lab testing and quality assurance
- Prepares and tracks specimens sent to lab
- Schedule appointments using approved scheduling guidelines
- Ability to be cross trained as a medical assistant
- Use call processing and other applicable functionality in the EHR to take messages and communicate with clinicians
- Monitor daily reminder call logs; conduct outreach to patients requiring appointments; contact patients who, “no show,” for follow up appointments for chronic conditions or preventive care
- Monitor administrative tasks in the EHR and respond timely
- Scan and index documents into the EHR; ensure that necessary documents, lab results, etc. are available in advance of patient visits
- Assist coworkers as needed to assure smooth office operation and delivery of excellent service through teamwork
- Demonstrate respect for patients and Optum staff by presenting a friendly, courteous manner at all times and maintaining patient confidentiality
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of customer service or Healthcare related experience
- Intermediate level of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to be cross trained as a medical assistant or have your certification as a medical assistant presently
- Ability to cover other offices if needed
- Ability to work:
- Wednesday between the hours of 1:50pm to 8:00 pm
- Thursday and Friday from 7:50 am to 8:00 pm
- Saturday 7:50 am to 5:00 pm
- Wednesday between the hours of 1:50pm to 8:00 pm
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with an electronic health record (EPIC)
- Knowledge of Medical terms
- One plus years of experience working in medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability
- Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
New York Residents Only: The salary range for New York residents is $16.00 to $28.27 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
